This is the new street sound to be heard all over Cuba which sends young things in Havana and all over Cuba into ecstasies. The first two productions (The Macry Presents La Operacion, order no. 59819-2 and The Macry presents BABALOCHAS, order no. 59824-2 ) have already been released by TIMBA and have a large following of fans.
Now the Macry is presenting ESENCIA, one of the hottest street bands from Havana. We can wait and see if ESENCIA really is the ESSENCE or if THE MACRY is able to find anything even better. As with all the productions in our series, it doesn’t matter if the programmes or the sounds are years old. No, a creative, laid-back, joyful performance is the most important thing. The right energy has to be brought over. THE MACRY, who has gone through all Cuban musical styles, from first vocals in COMPAY SEGUNDO to the SONEROS DE VERDAD (with whom he was awarded the German Jazz Prize in 2003), to salsa of the AFRO CUBAN ALL STARS or his Cuban hip-hop CD “Homeland” , is the best possible presenter for this exciting new series, being a true expert on the Cuban scene. He just phoned in from Havana! Believe it or not, he’s turned up yet another exciting act.
ESENCIA are one of the most exciting street bands in Havana. A trade mark for the whole series is, as always: no elaborate studio and no expensive instruments were needed. Creativity and inspiration are the essential ingredients for
